4th Cruise to Drive Back in Time Beechworth 2014
(End of Season Cruise)
Our cruise convoy left the Eastlink Service Centre under threatening clouds but enjoyed a dry run up to the NE of Vic. A fuel stop at Avenel enabled the cars to be refreshed, then it was the car’s occupants turn when we stopped for lunch at the Milawa Cheese Factory. Not only is there an enjoyable café but wine tasting, cheese tasting, an art gallery with some amazing sculptures constructed from recycled car parts and a gift shop. A short cruise after lunch saw us cruise into Beechworth in early afternoon. While it may have been dry, it was still brisk with a winter chill in the air and the search started to find a watering hole with a big wood fireplace to settle into. Dinner that night was at one of the many historical hotels that service locals and tourists that visit this town year round.
After breakfast on Saturday we cruised over to Yackandandah for a tour of this old gold mining town’s historic main street then backtracked up to the hillside village of Stanley. Lots of great scenery especially the multi coloured autumn leaves the region is famous for.
Local car club, The Old Cranks, hosted an afternoon cruise up and down the main street in drizzling rain to entertain the locals then it was off to another group dinner at another local hotel. There’s a lot of eating to do on this cruise weekend! On Sunday The Old Cranks hosted their annual show & shine in the centre of town helped along with some sunshine and a wide variety of cars and stationary engines chugging away in the background. After raffle draws and trophy presentations it was time to head back to Melbourne. All too soon! All greed that the extra day we added to this year’s cruise enabled cruise participants to enjoy more of the regions scenery and enjoy Beechworths many attractions at a more relaxed pace.
Our thanks to the hard working members of The Old Cranks for again hosting this event and the cruisers who came along on our End of Season Cruise.
Hope to see you again on our next cruise.
