Santa Cruz Cruisin the Coolstores December 2007
What can you say about Santa Cruz this year other than we had a ball bringing it to you. We hope that all the members of your family had a great time too. We've since heard back from Santa and Mrs. Claus and they really enjoyed meeting all the kids, big and small and handing out nearly 250 presents to the under 12's. They said they'd be back next year! Lets' get the numbers out of the way! Around 300 street rods, chrome bumper classics, pick up trucks, utes and muscle cars rolled in. Not only did the car park fill quickly but the overflow paddock did as well. Then there were all the friends and spectators who filled the non entrant parking over the other side of Eramosa Rd. We'll never know for sure but well over 1000 people came along to enjoy Santa Cruz 2007.
There's no doubt about Santa's crowd pulling ability! He's still got it!
We raised a $1000 from the Raffle (see below) for the local DOV organization that work to support people with disabilities. Our sincere thanks to all those that provided prizes, worked selling tickets, supported the fund raising by purchasing tickets, and of course our congratulations to the lucky winners.
We had the family entertainers, Mushroom, keeping the kids amused [not easy to do when they're all expecting Santa to roll in any minute!], and our new outside caterers Darren, Wendy and their team were busy getting the food off the BBQ and on to the hungry lining up. We had some sponsors bring along trade stands to tempt you with some great products and services.
We had lots of entrant's prizes that put smiles on a number of faces.
The weather gods smiled on us for once. It had rained the night before, which helped settle the dust in the paddock, then cleared up during the day into a very balmy evening. Perfect for Santa Cruz.
We also had Mick from Rodders Life filming, and a number of photographers were moving around shooting photos of cars, kids and of course Santa, the showman that he is.
And in the middle of all the mayhem, we managed to find our newest inductee for the Real Car Guy award. We were pleased that Greg and Jenny Jones made the long trip from down from the Latrobe Valley, as it gave us the opportunity to thank the Jones for the significant contribution they have made, and continue making, to our favourite hobby. Greg's award included a special Real Car Guy parka along with products from our sponsors. Greg was also lucky enough to win one of the special Cruiser prizes, so the trunk on his new hiboy coupe was well filled on the trip home.
We had Santa Cruz stubby holders to take home as a memento, [Santa's got one!] and many of you did as well as there aren't too many left.
And all of this happened in just 3 hours. And all for $2!
Of course all this only happens because you have a bunch of hard working people like my fellow members of Let's Go Cruisin' planning in advance then working tirelessly together on the night. Special mention must go to Cheryl and Graeme Hutson who put many hours into bringing Santa Cruz to life with work that really started straight after last year's. Many thanks guys.
You also need the great support we enjoy from the management and staff of the Peninsula Lounge, backed up by the generous support from our major sponsors such as Shannons, Holden Genuine Parts and the Bow-Tie Garage. Other businesses also came along and provided many of the prizes for the raffle, the entrant's prizes, the Real Car and the special Cruiser prize draw. We'd like to thank the management of the Autopro stores in Hastings, Narre Warren & Pakenham, the Autobarn store in Frankston, Jeff Wignall Ford in Mornington, for their contributions to a successful Santa Cruz.
So another Santa Cruz has been and all too quickly gone.
We'd like to thank all those people who have supported our events this year, the many that have signed up to become Cruisers, and our sponsors, without which we really couldn't do what we do.
We wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.
How good will 2008 be when the year kicks off on January 1st with Cruisin' the Coolstores?
The Santa Cruz Fund Raising Raffle for 2007
Part of the Spirit of Christmas is to be little more thoughtful and caring towards other people than perhaps our busy lives normally allow time for. We've all had a lot of fun at our Cruise nights and other events throughout the year and at Santa Cruz we like to do something to assist the many hard working people who support the many needs in our community. So at Santa Cruz we conduct a raffle, with a decorated Christmas tree along with lots of presents to go under it as first prize. Backed up with hampers and other prizes, the prize pool this year was worth well over $2000. We'd like to thank our sponsors and all those people who contributed to our prize pool. Especially Leanne Hutson who put the Christmas tree together for us.
Proceeds from this year's raffle were directed towards the Mornington Peninsula based, Disability Opportunities Victoria Inc. This non profit organization offers support for children and adults living with a disability. With the help of dedicated volunteers and staff, they work to provide the choices and access to activities for people with disabilities that we largely take for granted.
With the generous support of the many chrome bumper enthusiasts enjoying this year's Santa Cruz we managed to hit our target and Cheryl Hutson had great pleasure in presenting a cheque for $1000 to Anna from the DOV Inc. fundraising team.
If you'd like to find out more about the great work the DOV Inc folks do, or you'd like to make a personnel donation to them contact them through their web site www.dov.org.au or phone 03 5986 8405.
The team at Let's Go Cruisin' would like to thank all those who supported our fund raising effort by purchasing a ticket or two and of course, congratulations to all the lucky winners, especially 'Nobby' and his wife Sandra who looked stunned when collecting their new Christmas tree and all the gifts that went with it. There were a number of trips required to carry it all to the car.
