Santa Cruz - Cruise Night - December 2009
Santa Claus demonstrated his celebrity status yet again, when over 500 cars and a couple of thousand adults and kids cruised into the Lifestyle Centre to see him. We had Mushroom entertaining the kids from 5pm; trade stands to check out as well as the Shannons Super Rig to take a tour in. Of course there were all the neat street rods, muscle cars and chrome bumper classics to check out as they cruised in. Santa arrived in his red 1937 Rolls Royce Roadster ‘Sleigh’ which matched his red suit perfectly. After being mobbed like a rock star, he settled on this seat and chatted to all the kids who had patiently lined up. His helpers started distributing gifts and there were a lot of smiles on faces young and old.
Eventually, Santa had to leave and this allowed the presentations and raffle prize draws to get underway. A big thanks from all of us Santa, for finding the time from your busy schedule to cruise into Mornington for the night.
With the night dedicated to raising some much needed funds for local charity’s that provide support services for many people in our community less fortunate, we started the presentation by presenting two cheques for $1500 raised from tonight’s Xmas Tree Raffle. Our thanks to everyone who purchased a ticket or two to make these donations possible.
The first cheque was presented to Leanne from the Good Shepherd organization based at Hastings, who work with disadvantaged families and children, located on the Peninsula. The second cheque was presented to Liz & Dan from the Menzies Foundation that operates Sages Cottage in Baxter. They work with troubled teenagers and these funds will enable them to continue this valuable contribution to our community.
We then presented Daryl with the Best presented award. Daryl’s black 1929 Ford ‘A’ model Closed Cab Pick Up is always turned out to perfection and it was again tonight. Daryl was very pleased to be recognized with the bucket of car care products.
We then drew Mick’s name out of the bucket for the night’s Cruiser draw. He struggled down the steps with a 5 drawer tool cabinet courtesy of the Bow Tie Garage. Congratulations Mick. There were obviously plenty of LGC Cruisers attending Santa Cruz with over 120 names in the draw.
Then it was time for Nick from Shannons to act as barrel girl and pull the winning tickets for the Raffle. Gavin from Tyabb’s number came out and fortunately he likes big American cars because he had to make 4 trips to the stage to collect his new Xmas Tree and all the presents that went with it.
We then proceeded to find happy winners for another six hampers based around good sized Esky’s overflowing with goodies. Just ask anyone who was lucky enough to win one.
Our thanks to Santa, all our major sponsors, along with Peninsula Honey, Phil from Motor Court Toyota, Lorraine and Penny who generously provided items for our prize pool. A special thank you to LGC members Graeme & Cheryl who work tirelessly in the weeks leading up to Santa Cruz that makes it the unique & special event that it is.
Here are lots of photos to record another great Santa Cruz.
