Melbourne Cup Carnival & Cruise Night - November 2012

Melbourne Cup Carnival
The afternoon started out quietly with a number of very well dressed people cruisin’ in for an afternoon of Melbourne Cup flavoured fun. The threat of wet weather never materialized and a warm afternoon was enjoyed. After lunch things started gathering pace when it was time to auction off the horses in the cup. Auctioneer Fletch soon had the dollars flowing and with a pool of just short of $900, everyone who’d bought a horse was thinking about the cash they were taking home. Well of course there’s only one winner and for an investment of only $20, Geoff Hallett collected $450! There were smiles on the three runners up as well. It was also easy to spot the winners in the sweeps run in conjunction to the Calcutta. Then it was time for fashions on the field after a couple of parade laps winners were clutching their prizes for making the effort to glam up for the day. Did we mention that we already had around 80 cars in the car park to check out as well.

Cruise Night
Being a public holiday cars started cruisin in a little earlier than usual and by our usual start time of 5pm we had more than 150 cars parked in the Homemaker Centre. By 6pm the numbers had grown to over 250.

At presentation time we kicked off by announcing Steve Neal’s Reef Green ’70 Falcon GT as our pick for the Best Presented award. Steve gave us a brief history of his beautifully detailed XW. The car has been in his family since new and was restored in ’89 and has only 77,000 miles on the clock. It was flawlessly turned out and Steve picked up a bucket filled with around $200 worth of premium quality car care products.

The night’s LGC Cruiser draw again went to a new subscriber who signed up on the night. How good is it when you shell out $20 to subscribe and walk off with a $100 note at the same event!

It had been a long day so a number of early arrivals had left for home but it didn’t take too long to find three winners for the night’s entrants prizes, again made available by ACDelco. We finished off the presentations by finding a winner for the Col Warren Automotive voucher for a regular service on their car. Thanks Col. Next month is Santa Cruz.

Thanks to Graeme for the following photos.
