Cruise Night - February 2013

Perfect weather and a new freeway to bypass Frankston helped boost the number of chrome bumper cars cruising in to close on 400 entrants.

Lots of new and different cars to check out as usual. At the presentations, Peter Koning from the ASRF’s Technical Committee gave an update of his discussions with Victoria Police in regard to some unnecessarily aggressive action taken against car owners present at our previous two cruise nights. He reported some positive progress seems have been made and further discussions are scheduled to attempt to develop a better relationship with all police divisions and officers. He reminded car owners they had nothing to fear if their cars are legally registered and roadworthy, but police are targeting cars everywhere if they believe them to be unsafe.

Next up was the night’s LGC Cruiser prize draw. Rick from Coastal Signage had made a $250 voucher for custom pin striping available for tonight’s prize pool. He pulled Sylvia’s name out and husband Bob was pretty happy as his A model roadster/pickup is just about ready for some lines. Jarrod from Shannons Insurance was up next to announce a bonus prize for the night.  A ‘hot lap’ around Sandown race course in the passenger seat next to motor racing legend Jim Richards. Jarrod drew Gavin’s name out and being currently on long service leave, Gavin can hardly wait to next Tuesday when he gets to ride along with Jim. Our Thanks to Rick & Jarrod for making available these prizes.

Up next were the entrant’s gate prizes with three car care packs from ACDelco quickly finding new garages to reside in. Col Warren Automotive had again made available a car service voucher to the value of $100 and Chev’s Performance Centre in Carrum Downs provided us with a free Dyno Tune. Again didn’t take long to find happy winners of these two prizes.

The warm night meant there was no mass exodus after the prize draws and entrants continued to socialize or munch on a hamburger while the cruise night wound down for another month.

LGC Cruisers: Remember, next month we’ll draw the three annual LGC Cruiser prizes, so Cruisers, be present in order to have the ability to choose which prize you’d prefer when your name comes out of the bin. You don’t have to be present to claim a prize but any one that is will have first choice of the prizes if you’re not at the draw.
