Cruisin’ Photos

Cruise Night - December 2016

Perfect weather (at last!!) and another appearance by Santa combined with the promise of the Homemaker Centre filled to capacity with lots of chrome had cruisin fans out in droves at Santa Cruz 10. Santa did cruise in to spread the Christmas cheer, this year in the back of a Pink Cadillac.

I’m getting ahead of myself so back to the start.

Entrants started rolling in to the car park early looking to secure a good park. The stream of cars just kept coming and after squeezing 350+ cars into the Centre, we were forced to hang out the House Full sign. Something we don’t like doing but we also don’t want to box cars in so people cannot leave at any time.

This year we arranged Louise the award winning face painter to decorate lots of kid’s faces along with the amazing Tom the Balloon Man to entertain the kids present. And there were lots of kids!

We were happy to see Nick bring the Shannons Super Rig back for a visit [we missed him last year] enabling us to set up Santa’s throne on the Rig’s stage after decorating it with lots of tinsel. Meanwhile all the LGC crew we could muster were out helping entrants find those last remaining parking spaces.

Santa announced his arrival as only he can with a cruise around the car park then settled himself on his throne and was quickly in deep conversation with kids of all ages. After making sure everyone had a chance to chat with him and take a few happy snaps, he was back into the Caddy and off to his next engagement. Thanks Santa for coming to visit us all.

It was soon presentation time and first up was the Cruiser draw. A different prize pool tonight though. With the generous support of our sponsors, we were able to offer over $1500 worth of prizes to share amongst 5 lucky Cruisers present. The winners had a choice of a $400 voucher from Wizard Auto Hose, 2 x $300 Dyno Tune vouchers provided by Chev’s Performance in Carrum Downs, a set of ICE Ignition plug wires to suit the winners engine and a chromed starter motor to suit a SBC supplied by Mark McDonald Automotive who’s not only also in Carrum Downs, but right door to Chev’s. Some very happy winners as they selected their prizes.

Santa Cruz is also special because we host it as a charity fund raiser. With over $2000 in value to share amongst the 6 winners, a large crowd soon gathered at the draw. There was a bonus this year for the 6 lucky winners. We call it ‘cherry on top’. We asked the 6 winners to pick a card from a bucket in the order their winning raffle tickets had come out earlier. The major prize winner, Jane went first and picked the card that won her a solid silver key chain in the form of a 32 coupe Hot Rod, custom cast by Mornington Jeweller Roger Thomas as well as the major prizes in the raffle. Second place getter Mick went next and believe it or not, pulled the card for the second bonus prize, a custom made shirt supplied by Lynne & Mel from Gorgeous Gear. There were no losers in this draw as all the winners struggled off with their loot.

After a stellar turnout and an amazing response to the raffles at Santa Cruz, we are humbled to announce that we have raised over $2600 for charity.
Let's Go Cruisin will be donating the total profits of our Santa Cruz to 'CIKA' - Cancer In Kids Auxillary. What a deserving cause. If you visit their website at http://www.cika.org.au, I'm sure you will all agree.
It's important for us to acknowledge that we could not do what we do without the support of everyone that comes along to our events in their beautiful cars, bringing family and friends with them and spreading the word about things that we have planned. So to all of you, thank you.
We look forward to seeing all of you in the new year!

So after a pretty dismal year of average to poor weather on most cruise nights, we lucked out with almost a perfect night for Santa Cruz and in the Spirit of Christmas, we forgive all the weather forecasters. Well we will if they keep up the good work!

Thank you to:

  • Warren & his team at the Sober Mule. There were many cruise nights this year that he’d have been entitled not to open up at all! But he did!
  • All our sponsors without whom we could not do what we do.
  • All the LGC Cruisers who with their annual subscription and regular attendance encourage us to keep doing what we do.
  • All the people who supported our ‘special’ fund raising effort tonight, including Daryl and the team at the Victorian Hot Rod Association, Mark McDonald, Roger Thomas, Mark from Mercedes Benz Mornington  and Michael from ICE Ignition.
  • Shannons and especially their driver Nick for bringing the Super Rig back for Santa to meet all the kids on.

Lastly, thanks to the hard working members of Let’s Go Crusin’ team. We may not always get everything right but we’re having a red hot go at trying to host safe and enjoyable get togethers for the many car enthusiasts who choose to come along.

Best wishes for the Festive Season and more great cruisin in 2017.
