Cruisin’ Amongst the Ashes
Kinglake Phoenix Rod & Custom Club Show and Shine
Congratulations must go to the youngest car club in Victoria, Kinglake’s “Phoenix Rod & Custom Club”. Formed only in the last few month’s, they successfully hosted their first event on the outskirts of fire ravaged Kinglake. With many members losing friends& neighbours as well houses, sheds & cars, it’s a real credit to this new club to pull off an excellent event at their first attempt. Over 200 street rods, American & Aussie muscle cars and chrome bumper classics all cruised in to enjoy the sunny autumn day perched up on the ridge overlooking the Yarra valley below. Of course, being surrounded by burnt out bushland provided the constant reminder of what occurred here just a few weeks back.
We were please to be able to support the rod run with a cruise starting out from Mornington with 12 cruisers. By the time we’d cruised up to Ringwood the convoy had grown to around 20 cars. On our arrival in Kinglake the cruise convoy had swelled to around 50, at one stage completely filling 3 lanes of the Maroondah highway!
Here are a few photos of the cruise and the event.
