Mid Winter Cruise 2013
It’s the middle of winter, and after a few days of sunny spring like weather, the weather gods declared enough, winter returned and this year’s Mid Winter Cruise to Sorrento was a wet one.
But that didn’t deter nearly 60 hardy cruisin entrants from taking up the gauntlet to register in Frankston and cruise some of the nicest scenery close to Melbourne. To keep the 'in car crew' entertained, we’d set an observation quiz that determined the prize winners at presentations after lunch.
Fortunately, we’d secured the use of the Community Centre adjacent the reserved car park that provided a warm and comfortable room to host the kid’s colouring contest and Cruiser renewals. Our thanks to the folks at the Community Centre for making the facility available for our use.
At 2pm, it was time to hand out prizes for the kids colouring in. Plenty of imaginative designs and colours from the kids today! There were also lots of kids but we managed to send everyone of them away with a prize and a smile.
Then it was the big kids turn and first up was the Cruiser draw. It seemed that we had a big turnout of newly subscribed Cruisers as the box had plenty of slips to draw winners from. Two draws of $100 each plus some more kids goodies soon produced some happy Cruisers.
Then the Quiz winners. With only ½ of one point separating the winners from the runners up, we needed a cut of a deck of cards to finally see Juanita take away the winner’s hamper. She also collected a $500 credit voucher supplied by Tyres & More Mornington. Steve lost the cut of cards but walked away a winner with an ACDelco battery and a voucher from the Rye Hotel. We had 4 quiz entrants just ½ of a point away from 1st place and we presented them all with a goody bag. All other entrants then went into a final consolation draw for some ACDelco car care packs.
Yes, it was bit damp, yes the number of entrants was down on last year’s cruise and yes, those that braved the wet weather all seemed to enjoy cruising to Sorrento and there were many smiles on faces young and old as they headed for home.
Our thanks to Natalie and members of the Sorrento Chamber of Commerce for rolling out the welcome mat. The Mornington Shire for the use of the Community Centre and the Morce Ave car park. Thanks also to our event sponsors, ACDelco and Tyres & More Mornington. And lastly to all the cruisers that took the punt to go cruisin’ in the middle of winter.
Here’s some photos from Greg (at Frankston) and Graeme’s (at Sorrento) roving cameras.
