Cruisers Lounge

Cruise to the Hot Rod Show on Saturday 23rd.

We have again been invited to host a cruise for pre ’75 cars to the Hot Rod Show by the show’s organizers. They have advised that due to planned construction work around the Exhibition Buildings, the car parking arrangements are likely to be different to those of prior years. They have suggested that we arrive and be parked in our reserved area by 12 noon.
We’ll advise the final details of this cruise closer to the day, but for now it looks like being along similar lines to last year, but an earlier departure, likely to be around 10am from Mornington. We will operate a second registration point for the convenience of Cruisers from the eastern suburbs at the Manhattan Hotel in Canterbury Rd Vermont. The Mornington Cruise will pit stop at the Manhattan and join up with cruisers starting from there.
The parking at the show for cruise entrants is free and it’s right next to the Exhibition Building! There is however, a maximum number of cars that can be accommodated at the show so reserve your spot by signing up at any upcoming LGC event. See any of the team at the LGC tent to register.
The cruise will use the Eastlink Tollway & Eastern Freeway so an E Tag or day pass will be required. This route is the only viable way to have the cruise stay together all the way to the show.
Conditions of entry for this cruise.
  • Cruise is open to LGC Cruisers only
  • Must be driving a pre ’75 car
  • One entry ticket to the show must be purchased [we’ll have these available at the cruise start point]
  • Need to arrive at the gate as part of the cruise convoy.

March Cruise Night Special Effort

The members of Let’s Go Cruisin’ have decided to utilize the March Peninsula Cruise Night, this coming Tuesday, as a special Fund Raising effort for the Bush Fire Appeal. This tragic event has impacted directly on many car enthusiasts and their families as well thousands of our fellow Victorians. We are fortunate that we are in a position to help them by raising much needed funds. Our sponsors have been very supportive with this extra effort, donating over $4000 worth of goods to use for fund raising.
Holdens world acclaimed custom car, Efijy, will make a rare appearance. There will be some of Australia’s top classic & custom cars also on display. The cruise night will start at the usual 5pm, and at 7:30pm, some great prizes donated for the appeal will be going home with lucky winners. Live entertainment from Two Phase, and meals available from the Sober Mule Café as usual. There will also be many trade stands and displays.
Entry at the gate is still free for Cruisers but there is no door prize raffle for this night. As a Cruiser, you will receive a ‘buy one get one free’ voucher at the gate. If you choose to buy a $5 ticket in the nights fund raiser raffle at the LGC tent, and we hope you do, you’ll receive a free extra ticket to double your chances of winning.
Spectators will be asked to contribute with a gold Coin donation at the gate.
100% of the night’s proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross Bush Fire Appeal.
So come along and support this great cause and make help this our biggest and best cruise night ever.

August 2008

Devil Island Cruise
Chainsaw Bob hosted over 70 entrants on the Devil Island Cruise to Tasmania over Easter. It looks like over $5000 has been raised that will soon be passed over to a deserving charity.
Congratulations to Bob & Deb for organizing the cruise with this great result. See report & photos on the events web page.

DVD 2007 Events
We are pleased to be able to offer a DVD with over 1500 pictures taken across all our 2007 events, set to some great background music. These are available from our tent at events for $10. Thanks to LGC members Greg Wapling, Graeme Hutson & Marg Jenkin for collaborating to produce this for us. Work has already begun on the 2008 version.

Bendigo Swap Meet.
We have managed to secure a prime location at this year's Bendigo Swap Meet. As mentioned in our recent newsletter, as a Cruiser, we'd like you to use the site to drop by for a rest & chat, drop off your esky, or store stuff already purchased while you continue trawling the meet. Look for our tent just inside the main gate adjacent the food stalls. While we cannot take responsibility for any items left at the site or offer to sell goods for you, we do feel this service should make for a more enjoyable day at the meet.

Cruise the Coolstore
Winter weather does provide some challenges and we are fortunate that we can move the BBQ food service and our 'tent city' inside the Peninsula Lounge as we did for July. There's a light meal service available and we'll be playing our new DVD on the big screen. Moggy's Café & Bar also offers a range of meals, snacks, take away hot food as well as desert coffee & cakes. Don't forget that Moggy's offer all Cruisers a 10% discount off the bill by showing your valid Cruiser ID card. You can reserve a table by calling them on 5978 8437. So there's no excuse to stand around in the cold if you don't want to!

Upcoming Events.
Leggoland. Plans are coming together for the Cruiser Invitational event [that's Cruisers only!] at John Leggo's shed in Mornington in August. John's great 'shed' is featured in the latest volume of Hot Rod Revival. If you haven't seen it yet, it's better in the flesh! The invitation is included with your 2008/9 Cruiser ID card and window sticker. Great Ocean Road Cruise. We have deferred running the cruise to Apollo Bay planned for October this year. The planned date clashed with other scheduled events that should offer chrome bumper enthusiasts a great day out. With the continued growth in the number of people joining our favourite hobby, finding a date to run an event is proving difficult. What a great problem for the hobby to have!!

Texas Hold'em Poker Cruise - Sunday 18th January 2009
Preparation continues for next years Poker Run. We hope to have the large shed filled with trade stalls catering to both guys & gals to browse as well as live entertainment. All details are available on the event's web page.

Well we're well into summer with our cruisin' events in full swing. We've had some very hot days, but we've been fortunate with the weather so far. And we continue to have a busy January with the Poker Cruise and the Australia Day cruise only two weeks apart. 4. Merchandise
We quickly sold out of our first run of 'Pink' Stubby Holders and have ordered more. They should be available for the Australia Day Picnic. The last order placed for shirts, etc, was delayed due to flash floods occurring at the embroiderers, just before Christmas. Hopefully we'll have your ordered items available shortly.

Cruiser Newsletter Spring 2007

Here are some of the latest happenings at Let's Go Cruisin'.

1. Grand Prize Draw
The lady members from LGC decided that while the Tool Box we're giving away next June to one lucky Cruiser is a great prize, there was nothing of interest for the female Cruisers. So they added another tool kit to the prize pool that should balance the gender thing a bit. Its pink, housed in a 'designer' case and includes all those tools that would be handy to have in any house or car. Ladies, check it out at our events.

2. ACDelco Discounts becomes Holden Genuine Parts Discounts
ACDelco have had a recent change of management and a major change in the direction of their business activity focusing on the wholesale motor trade. As a result, they will no longer be sponsoring Let's Go Cruisin'. However, all is not lost. The team from GM Holdens will continue their support for LGC activities with the product range from Holden Genuine Parts. So at our events, you'll start seeing products from this range as prizes, including car care products. Holden Genuine Parts will be available to purchase at below trade prices through the Preston Motors [Parts Sales] trade stores as the ACDelco products were in the past. Tell the Preston Motors [Parts Sales] sales staff you're a Cruiser when ordering your goods to secure your discounts. You can also call them with your order, pay with a credit card and they'll deliver anywhere in the State for only a few dollars. Phone # is 1 300 559 586

3. New Supporter
Present your Cruiser card when making any purchase at Autopro Hastings store and receive up to 20% discount on most items in the store. Some conditions do apply.

4. Merchandise
We've just about sold out of our first run of Stubby Holders and have started work on new ones. They will be available by Santa Cruz. We also plan on carrying an amount of stock of most items of merchandise so hopefully we'll have on hand something suitable in your size, that you'll be able to take home from future events.

4. Upcoming Events and special Cruiser only benefits
See the reserve side of this note to check out the significant number of events we have planned for the next few months. We also have for our Cruiser members other benefits. Some examples:

  • Cruisers attending the Historic Races will receive their programme for free.
  • Cruiser prize draws at Santa Cruz, Texas Hold'em Poker Cruise, & Cruisin' Main St.

5. Car Entry to Let's Go Cruisin' Events
To help clarify what cars year & type can gain entry to our events we've published a guideline on the Cruiser page of our web site. We'd appreciate your co operation when we're required to apply it.

We are finalizing plans for our Spring Cruise. This will be a Cruiser inviation event and not advertised to the general public. We figure it's a way to all get to know each other better, as you've probably noticed that at most our our events we're all pretty busy doing stuff. This will be held over the weekend of 13/14 October. All Cruisers subscribed at the end of September will receive an invitation by mail outlining all details. There will be no charge for this event.
So for now, put this weekend aside in your calendar, and if you haven't renewed your subscription for 2007/8, better get that done so that the invitation for what should be a great weekend turns up in your mail box.

Cruiser Lounge News Update - May 2007

This update was emailed on Sunday April 29th to all Cruisers we have an email address for. If you did not receive this directly, it's probably because we don't have your correct email address on file. Please drop us an email at cruisinletsgo@hotmail.com so that we can correct it. Thanks

The 2006/7 summer cruise season has come to a close, although with the warm and dry weather continuing right throughout April, there were lots of nice days to get your car out.
At this time of the year, the Let’s Go Cruisin’ team gets together to work out plans for events over the next year. What we liked about this year’s events, what we’d like to change and what new things we might have a crack at.
So check back in on the web site from time to time to see what we come up with.
Webmaster, Greg Wapling has been busy updating the web site. There’s the report & photos from ‘Chainsaw’ Bob Pankhurst’s Hwy 31 Cruise to the ASRF Nationals, details of the Mid Winter Cruise coming up on July 1st, and some updating of other planned events pages.

Bob Pankhurst & his partner Deb Rigbye have been busy planning the next ‘Chainsaw’ Bob Cruise to Tasmania next Easter. Check out that page for details of what promises to be a great week, culminating at the Tasmanian ‘Un Nationals’ over Easter. Cruise the Coolstore Cruise nights continue 1st Tuesday of every month. The outside BBQ has proved a popular addition to the night. It’s our intention to have it operating at all the cruise nights, but we’re sure you can understand why we might not be able to operate the BBQ on wet wintry nights [ if they ever return! ].

Mid Winter Cruise - Sunday July 1st.
Cruise leaders, Rohan & Leanne Hutson have been busy putting this day together. We have an additional cruise start point at Chirnside Park for all those car enthusiasts living in the Northern and North Eastern areas of Melbourne. Lots of prizes for the Trivia quiz.
We’ll have a special ‘Cruiser only’ prize draw well worth getting your name in the draw for.

Phillip Island Historic Races
We don’t have a confirmed date for the 2008 Phillip Island Classic as yet, but we have agreement with Shannons to use their parking area again on the Saturday. We will be limited to 60 entrants for this day, so we’ll be giving Cruisers the opportunity to register before we take non Cruiser entries.

Summer Cruise - January 2008
Let’s Go Cruisin is putting together a Saturday night Cruise to be held in January 2008. More info as the plans firm up, but it will be ‘ a must do’ event.

Vantage Star Cars
Interested in making available your car/s to the film, television and photographic industries? Vantage Star Cars is keen to hear from owners of ‘unique cars’ who are prepared to make them available for professional productions. Check out the web site at www.yourcarontv.com or call Shan Railton on 02 9913 9596 [ Bus. Hours ]

Stubby Holders.
Don’t forget that these are available at discounted price of $5 to Cruisers.

Subscription Renewals.
We hope you managed to take advantage of many of the benefits from being a Cruiser in 2006/7 or you were lucky enough to win some of the $3000 plus worth of prizes we gave away to Cruisers only across the year. We plan to increase the value of these giveaways as we benefit from new sponsors coming on board.

Yes, time does fly by when you’re having fun and your Cruiser subscription falls due for renewal on June 30th 2007. We suggest renewing in person with Kerin & Carole at the May or June Cruise Nights or the Mid Winter Cruise. We’ll mail out any outstanding subscription renewals after these events.

Cruiser Lounge News Update - December 2006

We have been busy putting our events together for the Summer Cruise Season. We added some interesting new events and worked at spicing up our older ones. We aim to give Cruisers something a little extra in recognition of the support you give us when joining up.

Here's some of the extras we have planned for you over the coming months.
Santa Cruz - Hopefully you arrived early enough to collect a limited edition 'Peter Brock' Memorial 2007 Calendar or an ACDelco Poster.
Australia Day Picnic - We'll have a special 'Cruiser only' prize draw.
Phillip Island Historic Races - Cruiser entrants will receive a free program
Cruisin Main St. - We'll have a special 'Cruiser only' prize draw.
Balnarring Picnic Races - Free entry for Cruisers & family
Mid Winter Cruise - We'll have a special 'Cruiser only' prize draw.

Cruise the Coolstore Cruise Nights. We were all dissatisfied with the meal service at the November Cruise Night. Hopefully we won't experience that again. The Peninsula Lounge has been repainted, the Atrium freshened up and will be able to be entered from the car park. A BBQ serving sausages or hamburgers in bread, will be available at the entry to the Atrium, in addition to meals in the bistro and bar. So, if you'd just like a 'walk around' snack try the BBQ.
